Trash saves two teenagers at Canada

A pile of trash which was waiting to be recycled helped two Vancouver teenagers survive a seven-storey fall from a roof of heritage apartment building at 1601 Comox Street in Vancouver’s West End, police said on Friday.

The 18-year-olds had climbed atop an apartment building, apparently to watch Canada Day holiday fireworks on Thursday, when the cover over a shaftway collapsed and sent them plummeting.

Fortunately for the falling boy and girl, the bottom of the shaft was filled with bags of debris that cushioned the impact of landing on a concrete floor, police said. The two were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, including broken bones, officials said.
